About Prayer Times in Houston
Houston, Texas, has one of the fastest-growing Muslim communities in the United States, estimated at 150,000–200,000 — roughly 3–4% of the metropolitan population of 7 million. The community is notably diverse: South Asian Americans (Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi) form the largest segment, alongside significant Arab, West African, and Iranian communities, as well as a growing African-American Muslim population. Houston's oil and gas industry has historically attracted Muslim professionals from the Middle East and South Asia, giving the city a well-educated, economically established Muslim community.
Houston mosques use the ISNA calculation (Fajr and Isha at 15°). At 29.8°N — one of the more southerly major US Muslim communities — Houston's prayer times are relatively stable: Fajr ranges from approximately 4:45 AM in summer to 6:10 AM in winter, and Isha from 9:05 PM (summer) to 5:45 PM (winter). Texas's observance of daylight saving time means prayer times shift by one hour in spring and fall, a transition that mosques communicate prominently to their congregations.
The Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) is one of the largest Muslim organisations in America, operating over 25 prayer facilities and centres across the Houston metropolitan area, including the flagship Main Prayer Hall in Westheimer. The Al-Noor Mosque in southwest Houston and the Young Muslims Houston network are also prominent institutions. Houston's Eid celebrations in Hermann Park draw tens of thousands and have become one of the city's most colourful and well-attended multicultural events, often covered by local media as a celebration of the city's extraordinary diversity.
