About Prayer Times in Toronto

Toronto is Canada's largest city and one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world. Its Muslim population is estimated at over 300,000 — roughly 6–7% of the city — and continues to grow through immigration from South Asia, the Arab world, East Africa, and the Caribbean. Major Muslim communities are concentrated in the inner suburbs of Mississauga, Brampton, and Scarborough. Islam is the fastest-growing religion in Canada, and Toronto is at the centre of that growth.

Canadian mosques predominantly follow the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) method, setting Fajr and Isha at 15° solar depression. At Toronto's latitude of 43.7°N, prayer times shift considerably through the year. In June, Fajr begins as early as 3:30 AM and Isha can last until midnight. In December, Fajr falls around 6:10 AM and Maghrib near 4:40 PM. These extreme variations prompt regular discussion among Toronto's Islamic scholars about practical accommodations for workers and students — many mosques provide condensed or combined prayer options during challenging periods.

The Islamic Foundation of Toronto in the Scarborough neighbourhood operates one of Canada's largest Islamic centres, encompassing a mosque, school, and community facilities. Downtown Toronto's Masjid Toronto regularly accommodates overflow Friday crowds that fill surrounding sidewalks. The Ismaili Centre Toronto, affiliated with the Ismaili Muslim community, is an architecturally celebrated landmark near Wynford Drive. Toronto's diverse Muslim communities hold some of North America's largest Eid prayers, often at major stadiums or exhibition grounds to accommodate tens of thousands of attendees.
