Vancouver, on Canada's Pacific coast, has a Muslim population of approximately 80,000–100,000 — around 4–5% of the metropolitan area's 2.5 million residents. The community is particularly notable for its South Asian Muslim presence — British Columbia has large communities of Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Indian Muslims — alongside significant Iranian, Arab, and Somali communities. Vancouver mosques follow the ISNA calculation (Fajr and Isha at 15°). At 49.3°N — the northernmost major Muslim community in Canada outside of Edmonton — Vancouver's prayer times experience considerable seasonal variation. In June, Fajr begins around 3:00 AM and Isha falls near 11:30 PM, with less than three and a half hours of night. In December, Fajr is around 6:30 AM and Maghrib near 4:20 PM. The Masjid Al-Salaam in Richmond and the Vancouver Masjid and Islamic Education Centre are among the largest serving the metropolitan area. The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), one of Canada's largest Islamic organisations, operates a significant presence in Vancouver including the MAC Vancouver Mosque in South Vancouver. During Ramadan, Iftar gatherings at Vancouver's major mosques bring together the city's diverse Muslim communities, and the annual Eid prayers in open-air parks draw thousands of worshippers from across the Lower Mainland.
