About Prayer Times in Singapore

Singapore is a city-state of about 5.9 million people, of whom approximately 15% (around 700,000) are Muslim — forming the country's second-largest religious group. Singapore's Muslim community is predominantly Malay and ethnically distinct from the majority Chinese population, though smaller numbers of South Asian, Arab, and converted Chinese Muslims also form part of the community. Islam in Singapore is governed by the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA), and Islamic affairs are overseen by MUIS (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura — the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore).

Prayer times in Singapore are officially issued by MUIS, which uses an astronomical method calibrated for Singapore's latitude of 1.35°N. Like Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi, Singapore's equatorial position means prayer times are exceptionally stable: Fajr falls between approximately 5:40 and 6:05 AM all year, and Maghrib between 7:00 and 7:20 PM — a range of less than half an hour across all seasons. MUIS publishes annual prayer timetables and broadcasts the Adhan times on national radio station Warna 94.2FM, which also serves Singapore's Malay-Muslim community.

The Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) in the Kampong Glam heritage district is Singapore's most iconic mosque, built in 1928 in a golden-domed Indo-Saracenic style and designated a national monument. The Al-Imam Mosque, the Masjid Darul Aman, and the large Masjid Assyafaah in Sembawang serve the community across different neighbourhoods. MUIS also runs Madrasah Aljunied and other Islamic schools. During Ramadan, Kampong Glam transforms into a festive bazaar strip, and the nightly Iftar crowds at Sultan Mosque make it one of the most photographed Ramadan scenes in Southeast Asia.
