About Prayer Times in Bangkok
Bangkok, Thailand's capital and largest city, has a Muslim population of approximately 300,000–400,000 out of a metropolitan population of over 10 million — roughly 3–4%. Thailand's total Muslim population is estimated at 5–6 million, concentrated in the four southernmost provinces (Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and Satun), which are majority Malay-Muslim. Bangkok's Muslim community is historically rooted in the Malay and Persian trading communities that settled in the city centuries ago, alongside later arrivals from South Asia and the Arab world.
Thai Muslims primarily follow the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18°) for prayer time calculation, with timetables published by the Central Islamic Council of Thailand. At 13.8°N, Bangkok's equatorial proximity gives it very stable prayer times — Fajr falls between approximately 5:00 AM and 5:25 AM throughout the year, and Maghrib between 6:10 PM and 6:40 PM, varying by less than 30 minutes across all seasons. This stability makes daily prayer scheduling in Bangkok straightforward compared to the dramatic swings in higher-latitude cities.
The Haroon Mosque (Masjid Harun) near the Chao Phraya river bank in Bang Rak district, built around 1890, is one of Bangkok's oldest and most historic mosques, serving the Arab and Malay merchant community that settled in the area. The Darul Aman Mosque in Lat Phrao and the large Makkah al-Mukarramah Mosque in Ramkhamhaeng district are prominent community mosques. Bangkok's Ramadan season sees Muslim-majority communities, particularly in the Bang Rak and Min Buri areas, organise lively Iftar markets along mosque streets that draw both Muslim residents and curious non-Muslim visitors.
