About Prayer Times in Rabat

Rabat is the capital of Morocco and home to approximately 1.8 million people in its metropolitan area. Morocco's king, who holds the title Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Faithful), is the country's supreme religious authority, and Rabat as the royal capital is also the centre of Morocco's Islamic institutional life. The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, headquartered in Rabat, oversees the country's mosques, Islamic education, and the official Ramadan moon-sighting process.

Morocco follows the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18°) for prayer time calculation, with times published by the Ministry of Habous. At 34°N, Rabat is slightly north of Casablanca, producing nearly identical prayer schedules. Since Morocco adopted permanent daylight saving time (UTC+1) in 2018, all clock-based prayer times are pushed one hour later than solar — Fajr in winter falls around 7:10 AM by the clock, while in summer it begins around 4:50 AM. Maghrib time is broadcast on national radio and television, a signal eagerly awaited across the country during Ramadan.

The Hassan Tower — the incomplete minaret of an ambitious 12th-century mosque begun by the Almohad Sultan Yaqub al-Mansur — is Rabat's most iconic landmark and a World Heritage Site. Had it been completed, it would have been the tallest minaret in the world. The adjoining Mohammed V Mausoleum, built in traditional Moroccan style, is a major site of royal and religious significance. The Grand Mosque of Rabat and the ancient Chellah necropolis — containing mosque ruins from the Marinid period — round out the capital's rich Islamic heritage.
