About Prayer Times in Kuwait City

Kuwait City is the capital of Kuwait, a small Gulf state where Islam is the official religion and approximately 74% of the population is Muslim. Kuwaiti citizens are almost entirely Muslim — predominantly Sunni with a significant Shia minority — while the large expatriate workforce brings additional Muslim communities from South and Southeast Asia. Kuwait's legal system is partly based on Islamic law, and Islamic institutions play a central role in Kuwaiti civic life.

Kuwait uses the Umm al-Qura calculation method, administered through the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. At 29.4°N, Kuwait City sees moderate seasonal variation: Fajr ranges from roughly 3:45 AM in summer to 5:40 AM in winter, and Maghrib from 6:15 PM (summer) to 4:55 PM (winter). Mosques throughout the country are required to follow the ministry's published timetable, and the government funds the construction and maintenance of mosques across Kuwait.

The Grand Mosque of Kuwait (Masjid al-Kabeer), opened in 1986 near the National Assembly building, is Kuwait's largest mosque with a capacity of 10,000 worshippers inside and room for 7,000 more in its courtyard. Its striking dome and twin minarets are a defining feature of the Kuwait City skyline. The Al-Salam Mosque and hundreds of neighbourhood mosques serve daily worshippers. Kuwait's tradition of community solidarity during Ramadan is notable — large communal Iftar tables (ma'idat al-Rahman) sponsored by government ministries and charities are laid out across public spaces, offering free meals to all.
