About Prayer Times in Doha

Doha is the capital and largest city of Qatar, a small but wealthy Gulf state where Islam is the official religion and approximately 67% of the population is Muslim. Qatar's Muslim community is predominantly Sunni, following the Hanbali school of jurisprudence — the same school that underpins Wahhabi and Salafi traditions prevalent in Saudi Arabia. While expatriates form the majority of Qatar's total population, Qatari citizens — who are almost exclusively Muslim — dominate civic and religious institutions, and Islamic practice is central to the state's identity.

Qatar uses the Umm al-Qura method for official prayer times, published by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. At 25.3°N, Doha's prayer schedule is similar to Dubai and Riyadh — Fajr ranges from approximately 3:55 AM (summer) to 5:30 AM (winter), and Maghrib from 6:10 PM to 5:20 PM. Qatar's mosques operate under government oversight and must adhere strictly to the officially published timetables.

The State Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab), opened in 2011 and one of the largest mosques in Qatar, can accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers and is the central focus of national religious events. The historic Al-Khelaifi Mosque in the old Msheireb district and the Fanar Qatar Islamic Cultural Centre — a striking spiral tower housing a mosque, library, and Islamic education facilities — serve Doha's growing Muslim community. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Doha organised dedicated prayer facilities at stadiums and fan zones, making Islamic practice visible on a global sporting stage.
