About Prayer Times in Amman
Amman, the capital and largest city of Jordan, is home to approximately four million people and serves as one of the Arab world's most cosmopolitan capitals. Jordan's population is approximately 95–97% Muslim, predominantly Sunni of the Hanafi school, and Amman's urban landscape reflects this — minarets rise above every neighbourhood, and the call to prayer punctuates the city's daily rhythm across its famous seven hills (now expanded to more than twenty).
Jordan's prayer times are calculated by the Iftaa' Department (the General Iftaa' Directorate) using the Egyptian General Authority of Survey method — Fajr at 18° and Isha at 17° solar depression. At 32°N, Amman's prayer times show meaningful seasonal variation: Fajr ranges from about 3:25 AM in summer to 5:55 AM in winter, and Isha from about 9:30 PM (summer) to 6:45 PM (winter). Times are published monthly by the Ministry of Awqaf and broadcast on Jordan Radio.
The King Abdullah I Mosque, completed in 1989 with its striking blue mosaic dome, is Amman's most prominent Islamic landmark and one of the few mosques in Jordan open to non-Muslim visitors. The ancient Al-Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman, originally built by Abdullah I in 1924 on the site of an Ottoman-era mosque, remains an important Friday congregation point. Jordan's Islamic heritage also includes significant sites near Amman — the Cave of the Seven Sleepers (Ahl al-Kahf) and the site of the Prophet's Companions' graves at Mazar al-Karak draw Muslim pilgrims regularly.
