About Prayer Times in Madrid

Madrid, Spain's capital and largest city with a population of 3.3 million (6.7 million in the metropolitan area), is home to approximately 300,000–350,000 Muslims — around 5–6% of the metropolitan population. Spain's Muslim population of roughly 2 million is predominantly Moroccan-Spanish, alongside significant Algerian, Senegalese, Pakistani, and convert communities. Spain has a uniquely complex relationship with Islam — the Iberian Peninsula was under Muslim rule (al-Andalus) from 711 to 1492 CE, a period that produced magnificent Islamic civilisation whose legacy is still visible in architecture, language, and culture.

Spanish mosques use the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18°), with timetables available from the Islamic Commission of Spain (CIE). At 40.4°N, Madrid's prayer times vary considerably — Fajr ranges from around 3:35 AM in June to 7:10 AM in December, and Isha from 11:10 PM (summer) to 6:15 PM (winter). Spain's late dining culture, combined with long summer days, makes Ramadan fasting in Madrid particularly demanding — fasting days in June can exceed 18 hours, and the Iftar falls after 10:00 PM by the clock.

The Islamic Cultural Centre of Madrid (Centro Cultural Islámico de Madrid), known as the M-30 Mosque for its location near the M-30 ring road in the Moratalaz district, is the largest mosque in Spain and one of the most important in Western Europe. Inaugurated in 1992 — the 500th anniversary of the end of Muslim rule in Spain — with Saudi funding, it features twin minarets and a library focused on Islamic history of the Iberian Peninsula. The Abu Bakr Mosque in Lavapiés, the historic working-class neighbourhood that has become one of Madrid's most diverse areas, serves the city's largest street-level Muslim congregation.
