About Prayer Times in Karachi

Karachi is Pakistan's largest city and its commercial capital, with an estimated population of 16–20 million people. It is one of the most populous Muslim-majority cities in the world. The city's Muslim community is richly diverse — Sunni Muslims (predominantly of the Hanafi school, represented by both Deobandi and Barelvi traditions) form the majority, alongside a significant Shia community and smaller Ismaili and Ahmadi populations. Karachi is home to major Islamic seminaries (madrasas), including the prestigious Jamia Darul Uloom, which has influenced Islamic scholarship across South Asia.

Prayer times in Karachi follow the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi (UISK) method — the standard used across Pakistan — which places Fajr at 18° solar depression and Isha at 18°. At Karachi's latitude of 24.9°N, seasonal variation is moderate: Fajr ranges from roughly 4:20 AM in June to 6:00 AM in December, while Maghrib stays between about 5:50 PM and 7:05 PM. Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs coordinates national prayer timetables distributed through mosques and printed in major newspapers each month.

The Memon Masjid in Saddar and the vast Masjid-e-Tooba (often called the "Round Mosque") in Defence Housing Authority — one of the world's largest single-domed mosques — are among Karachi's most celebrated. The city observes Ramadan intensely: large congregational Tarawih prayers draw thousands to mosques throughout the month, and the streets of old Karachi remain animated long after Isha, with sehri stalls serving food in the hours before Fajr.
