About Prayer Times in Lahore

Lahore, Pakistan's second-largest city and the capital of Punjab province, has been a centre of Islamic culture and scholarship in South Asia for over a millennium. With a population of some 13 million, Lahore carries the distinction of being a city where Mughal architecture, Sufi shrines, and vibrant street devotion coexist in the same neighbourhood. The city hosts the shrines of prominent Sufi saints including Data Ganj Bakhsh (Ali Hujwiri), whose shrine at Data Darbar draws hundreds of thousands of devotees annually and remains one of the most visited Islamic sites in South Asia.

Lahore follows the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi method — the national standard for Pakistan — placing Fajr and Isha at 18° solar depression. At 31.5°N latitude, seasonal variation is more pronounced than in Karachi: Fajr ranges from about 3:20 AM in summer to 5:50 AM in winter, and Maghrib from 5:00 PM (winter) to 7:40 PM (summer). Prayer times are announced daily via mosque loudspeakers throughout the city's dense urban fabric, and mosques in Lahore's historic Walled City can be heard overlapping each other in the minutes around each Adhan.

The Badshahi Mosque, commissioned by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1671, is one of the world's largest mosques and Lahore's most iconic landmark. Facing the Lahore Fort across a vast courtyard, it can accommodate 100,000 worshippers for Eid prayers. The nearby Wazir Khan Mosque, with its extraordinary tilework, is considered the finest example of Mughal-era mosque architecture in Pakistan. Lahore's Ramadan is celebrated with special fervour: all-night bazaars, communal Sehri meals, and Tarawih prayers at Data Darbar that continue until just before Fajr.
