About Prayer Times in Islamabad

Islamabad, the purpose-built capital of Pakistan, was planned in the 1960s to replace Karachi as the federal capital and has grown into a city of roughly 1.5 million — or around 2.8 million in the wider Capital Territory. Pakistan is a majority Sunni Muslim country (approximately 96% Muslim), and Islamabad reflects this through its prominent mosques, Islamic institutions, and the central role of Islamic identity in the country's political and civic life.

Islamabad follows the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi method (Fajr and Isha at 18° solar depression) — the standard across Pakistan. At 33.7°N, the capital experiences greater seasonal variation than Karachi or Lahore: Fajr can begin as early as 3:15 AM in June and as late as 6:00 AM in December, while Isha ranges from about 10:30 PM (summer) to 6:50 PM (winter). The Adhan resounds from the Faisal Mosque's minarets across the Margalla Hills — an Adhan audible across much of the city.

The Faisal Mosque, completed in 1986 and named after King Faisal of Saudi Arabia who funded its construction, is one of the largest mosques in the world and the most recognisable landmark in Pakistan. Designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay in the shape of a Bedouin tent with four soaring minarets, it can accommodate 300,000 worshippers in its outdoor grounds. The mosque houses the International Islamic University Islamabad on its broader campus. Islamabad also hosts the Islamic Research Institute and the Pakistan Council of Islamic Ideology, making it Pakistan's foremost centre of Islamic policy and scholarship.
