About Prayer Times in Brussels

Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the administrative centre of the European Union, has a Muslim population of approximately 300,000 — around 25% of the capital region's 1.2 million residents, one of the highest proportions of any Western European capital. Belgium's Muslim community is predominantly of Moroccan and Turkish heritage, with communities established since the 1960s. The Molenbeek, Schaerbeek, and Anderlecht communes have large Muslim populations and dense mosque networks.

Belgian mosques primarily follow the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18°) or the CGICB (Coordinating Body of Islamic Institutions of Belgium) recommendations. At 50.9°N, Brussels shares Cologne's latitude and its challenging seasonal prayer pattern — Fajr before 3:00 AM in June, Isha after 11:00 PM in summer, and Maghrib before 4:30 PM in winter. The Belgian Muslim Executive (EMB) is the officially recognised body representing Islam in Belgium, responsible for coordinating with government on religious matters including prayer time guidelines and Ramadan moon-sighting.

The Grand Mosque of Brussels in the Cinquantenaire Park, established in 1967 in a pavilion gifted by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia — part of the 1958 World Expo grounds — is Belgium's largest mosque and the main Friday congregation mosque for the capital's Muslim community. The Molenbeek Mosque and the network of neighbourhood mosques across the 19 communes of the Brussels Capital Region serve daily worshippers. Brussels hosts the headquarters of the Muslim World League Europe office, reflecting the city's importance as a hub for European Islamic institutions.
