About Prayer Times in Berlin

Berlin, Germany's capital and largest city, has a Muslim population of approximately 250,000–300,000 — around 8% of the city's 3.7 million residents. Germany's Muslim community is predominantly of Turkish origin, a legacy of the Gastarbeiter (guest worker) programme of the 1960s–70s, alongside significant Arab, South Asian, and Bosnian communities. Berlin's Muslim community has grown and diversified further through refugee arrivals, particularly from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan in the 2010s. Neukölln and Wedding are the neighbourhoods most associated with Muslim community life in Berlin.

Berlin's mosques largely follow the DITIB (Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institution for Religion) timetables — which use the Turkish Diyanet calculation (Fajr at 18°, Isha at 17°) — or the Muslim World League method used by Arab and South Asian community mosques. At 52.5°N, Berlin shares London's high-latitude challenges: in June, Fajr can begin before 2:45 AM and Isha approaches midnight; in December, Fajr falls around 6:25 AM and Maghrib near 3:55 PM. German Islamic federations coordinate seasonal prayer guidance for these challenging months.

The Şehitlik Mosque in Neukölln, completed in 2005 in an Ottoman architectural style with ornate tile work and twin minarets, is one of Berlin's most prominent mosques and is open to non-Muslim visitors — making it an important site for intercultural dialogue. The historic Wilmersdorf Mosque (Berliner Moschee), built in 1924 — one of the oldest purpose-built mosques in Germany — remains active. Berlin's Ahmadiyya Muslim community, one of the oldest in Europe, has been present in the city since the 1920s. The city's largest Eid prayers take place in open-air venues, sometimes drawing tens of thousands of worshippers.
