About Prayer Times in Barcelona
Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and Spain's second city, has a Muslim population of approximately 150,000–200,000 — around 7–9% of the city's 1.6 million residents. The Moroccan community is by far the largest single Muslim group, followed by Pakistanis, Senegalese, and Bangladeshis — the latter being particularly prominent in the El Raval neighbourhood, where South Asian Muslim culture has created a distinct community hub. Barcelona's Islamic history connects directly to al-Andalus: the city was part of the Umayyad Caliphate from 716 to 801 CE.
Barcelona's mosques follow the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18°). At 41.4°N, Barcelona has slightly milder prayer-time variation than Madrid — Fajr ranges from approximately 3:45 AM in June to 7:05 AM in December, and Isha from 10:55 PM (summer) to 6:20 PM (winter). Like Madrid, Spain's late clock time (Barcelona is geographically at the longitude of the UK but uses Central European Time) pushes all prayer times about an hour later by the clock than one might expect for its solar position.
The Tariq ibn Ziyad Mosque (named after the Muslim commander who led the conquest of Iberia in 711) in the Sant Pere neighbourhood is one of Barcelona's most established mosques. The Centre Islàmic de les Corts and numerous community prayer rooms serve Barcelona's diverse Muslim neighbourhoods. The city's El Raval district has a significant Pakistani Muslim commercial presence, with halal butchers, South Asian restaurants, and Islamic bookshops lining the Carrer de l'Hospital. Every year, tens of thousands of Barcelona's Muslims gather for Eid prayers in open spaces across the city, making it one of the most visible Islamic occasions in Catalonia.
