Does a Phone With Quran Require Wudu to Touch?
Do you need wudu to touch or read the Quran on your phone or tablet?
Islamic Ruling
The reasoning:
The prohibition on touching the Quran without wudu (based on Quran 56:79 and relevant hadiths) applies to the physical mushaf — the written book of the Quran. A phone is primarily an electronic device; the Quran displayed on it is digital text, not the mushaf itself.
The cautious view:
Some scholars recommend maintaining wudu out of respect for the Quran, as the screen displays the actual words of Allah. While not obligatory, it shows reverence.
Practical consensus: You may read Quran on your phone without wudu. Out of respect, do not hold a phone displaying Quran in inappropriate places (e.g., bathrooms). Wudu is still required for Salah regardless.

Views of the Four Madhabs
Contemporary scholars (majority)
Wudu not required to touch a phone/tablet with Quran; the device is not a mushaf. Recommended out of respect but not obligatory.
Scholar's View
Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen: "The prohibition on touching the Quran without wudu applies to the physical mushaf. Electronic devices are different in nature."
